RadCap™
RadCap™
Description
The RadCap™ line of radiation shielding helmets were developed with patient comfort and safety in mind. During dental and medical imaging a patient is often covered with shielding aprons, thyroid collars and other protective devices. Yet nothing was provided for the head… and more importantly the brain. That is until now. The RadCap™ has bridged this gap in protective coverage. After all, your brain is one of the most important parts of your body and we want to help you to keep it happy and healthy!
For years, the brain has largely been thought to be radio-resistant or less susceptible to the harmful effects of radiation. However, recent studies are showing this to be false. While the low mitotic activity of the brain does lead to lower instances of developing cancer, the concern of developing other maladies of the brain is now being proven to be a real risk. Even low dose exposure to radiation, such as that used in dental and medical imaging, has been shown to increase a person’s likelihood of developing Alzheimer’s, dementia, and increased plaque buildup, which is a leading cause of stroke.
The RadCap™ has been developed and tested extensively in the dental and medical imaging fields. By using a design that allows our helmets to fully cover any size and shape head, we are able to offer a unique product that shields your brain. From infants to adults, we’ve got your noggin covered!
The standard model is designed to be used with any point and shoot x-ray device, either film or digital. It offers patients a new level of protection for their head and brain that is not seen in any other product.
The helmet can be worn in conjunction with most shielding aprons that are a standard of care through-out the medical industry. Our unique design fits any size or shape head. Utilizing overlapping flaps to create a complete shield around the head, it protects everything that is so vital inside.
Made in the USA, our helmet features the same industry standard materials that provide the most comprehensive safety possible.
It has been too long that only the chest and thyroid areas have been covered. Now it’s time to ask, What about my head? We all know the risks of radiation… So why not add a simple but affective layer of protection for your head. It is a no brainer!

Helmet Care and Guidelines
The following guidelines and tips will help maintain your helmet’s safe performance as well as keep your x-ray protective apparel looking good for many years to come:
Inspection
We recommend that your x-ray protective garment is inspected thoroughly upon receipt and at regular intervals, as determined under your radiation safety program.
During a plain film radiographic inspection you may observe:
- Light spots, small or large, which may appear indicating localized thicker attenuating content particles. This effect increases X-Ray protection and should be of no concern.
- Darker shaded areas can appear which usually indicates a thickness variation in the material. If a sharp edge defines the darker area, this may be the result of damage to one or more of the garment’s 1 to 5 plies of protective material. This is often caused by stress from the misuse and/or improper handling of these garments (i.e. folding, draping or creasing the garments).
- A small amount of dark spots, often referred to as pin holing can appear which are inherent to the manufacturing process. As long as there are no dark spots exceeding 5 mm in diameter, health physicists have determined they are of no concern. This should not be interpreted as defective manufacturing. There should be concern if you find dark spots or holes larger than 5 mm or an area which shows many small spots clumped together.
- There should be concern if dark lines appear as they usually indicate possible cracks or severe thinning in the material. This is normally caused by one or more plies cracking or deteriorating, as a result of misuse, mishandling, or age.
- Please inspect garments for any visible defects in workmanship and notify us immediately if your garment is not satisfactory.
